Consume Me
I learned to fear being forgotten, discarded, ignored
So I fought to become memorable, valuable, seen
I learned that to be “keep-able” I needed to provide
Something worth keeping
A body and mind made up of products, valuables, assets
But all I did was turn myself into something
Consumable
And consumables once consumed
Are…forgotten, discarded, ignored
Thrown away
I didn’t feel you consuming me
Until it was nearly too late
But you showed your cards too early
I saw the game you were playing
I removed my consumable self from you
Before you could play your hand
So I won’t be discarded this time
A small comfort
But I remain partially consumed
And the worst part is knowing that I offered myself up to you for just this purpose
How do I become whole again?
And do I even deserve wholeness?
*To Consume: 1. to eat or drink, 2. to use up resources, 3. to overwhelm with strong feelings, 4. to completely destroy
